The American jazz composer, pianist, organist and bandleader Carla Bley and her partner, jazz bassist and composer Steve Swallow talk with Torsten Maaß about avant-garde in music.
They talk about the beginning of their career. What brought them to Hamburg, which trends are current in music distribution, how youtube, mp3 and streaming affects the quality of music today. They share their inspirations with the audience and answer some questions.

The question regards new technologies and audio systems, such as 3D-Audio and surround sound. They end up talking about sound design, which is very new to them. Carla is very interested, how sound designers make money by improve the way that for example the closing of a cars door sound. It is a new line of work in which you can be creative and make a living, Carla states.
